Biography
Miguel Vargas Jiménez, known artistically as Bambino, was a Spanish flamenco singer born on 12 February 1940 in Utrera. He began his career in local venues before moving to Madrid to perform at the tablao El Duende in 1961. After completing military service, he released his first vinyl record, ¡Los Canasteros! (1964), and earned popularity as the ye-ye gitano in venues like Torres Bermejas. He achieved significant acclaim with the singles âLa Paredâ (1966) and âQuieroâ (1967) and released the studio albums Quiero (1967) and Bambino! (1969). In 1967, he collaborated with Paco de LucÃa on the show Pregón gitano. His subsequent works include the albums La noche y tú (1973) and Algo de mà (1973). He experienced a stylistic renewal with the album Soy lo prohibido (1985), which featured the track âProcuro olvidarteâ (1985). He returned to Utrera in the early 1990s and issued his final studio recording, Resucité (1996). Vargas Jiménez died on 5 May 1999 from throat cancer. Following his death, his work was featured in the posthumous compilation Algo Salvaje (2022).
