Biography

Antonio Vargas Cortés is a Spanish flamenco singer born in 1976 in Seville. Known professionally as Potito, he is the son of the cantaor and guitarist Changuito and the nephew of the dancer Angelita Vargas. He was regarded as a child prodigy and began performing flamenco on tourist boats along the Guadalquivir River at age ten. During his adolescence, he collaborated with musicians such as Paco de Lucía and Tomatito. Potito’s recording career began with Andando por los caminos (1990) followed by Macandé (1992). He released the studio recording Mía pa los restos (1996) and the studio recording El último cantaor (1999). His later work included Barrio Alto (2006) and Mi reencuentro (2018), which was produced by Vicente Amigo. Potito has performed internationally and has collaborated in spectacles with artists including Sara Baras and Joaquín Cortés.
