Biography

Greg X. Volz is an American Christian rock singer who was born as Gregory Xavier Volz in 1950. He achieved professional recognition after joining the ensemble Petra, serving as their lead vocalist between 1979 and 1985. Volz is famous for his high tenor vocal range and for his contributions to the band during its peak commercial success in the early 1980s. His discography with Petra includes the studio recordings Washes Whiter Than (1979), Never Say Die (1981), More Power to Ya (1982), Not of This World (1983), and Beat the System (1984). After departing the group, he released his debut solo studio recording, The River is Rising (1986). In 2010, he helped establish Classic Petra with other veteran members and later performed with Classic Petra Resurrection (CPR).
