Biography
Grand Baton, an Afro-Caribbean progressive rock and jazz fusion band from New York City, was founded in 2006 by Jean-Christophe Maillard. Born in Pointe-Ã -Pitre, Guadeloupe, Maillard was the composer, arranger, guitarist, pianist, singer, and songwriter of the group. Their debut album Le Grand Baton was released in 2007.
In 2013, Grand Baton collaborated with vocalist Lisa Fischer, with Maillard serving as the band's musical director and arranger. The following year, they embarked on a tour that spanned North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Their collaboration included performances at notable jazz festivals such as The Monterey Jazz Festival in 2014, The Newport Jazz Festival in 2015, and The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in 2017.
