Thomas Pablo Croquet, professionally known as Thomas Mars, born on November 21, 1976, in Versailles, France, is a French musician and the lead singer of the indie pop band Phoenix, whose career began in the midâ1990s. After dropping out of college, he formed the indie pop band Phoenix with school friends Chris Mazzalai and Deck dâArcy, adopting the stage name Thomas Mars to create a more distinctive persona. Phoenix released their first single, "Too Young", in 2000, which peaked at number 97 on the French charts, and later that year issued the debut studio album United, which shipped 150,000 units worldwide. The group signed to the Parisâbased label Source Records and continued to release albums, such as Alphabetical (2004) and It's Never Been Like That (2006). In 2010, Phoenix received a Grammy Award. Under the pseudonym Gordon Tracks, Thomas Mars contributed vocals and drums to Airâs 2000 single "Playground Love" from The Virgin Suicides, which reached number 25 on the UK singles chart.
