Biography

With his lo-fi, DIY charm, eccentric raps and dreamy, slacker-pop lullabies, Icelandic songwriter-producer Gisli drew comparisons to Beck and Badly Drawn Boy when he emerged in 2004 with his debut album 'How About That?'. Born in Reykjavik, he started bashing away on his neighbour's drum kit at six-years-old and his fisherman father would return from trips to Germany with bundles of CDs and tapes for him to explore. By 19 he had moved to Oslo, Norway to play drums in punk band Pornshot, but he later caused a stir as a solo artist by rapping about dates with Gareth Gates on 'Go Get Em' Tiger' and binge drinking on 'Pass Out'. He played at the Glastonbury Festival in England and was signed up by EMI, but his more acoustic, heartfelt second album 'Build-Ups and Break-Downs' in 2007 failed to make much of an impact. In more recent times he has been part of the indie electro group Half Tiger and written songs for experimental Norwegian singer Ana Garbarek, one of which was used in the Luc Besson film 'Angel-A'.
