Biography
The American heavy metal band Five Finger Death Punch was formed in Las Vegas in 2005 by guitarist Zoltan Bathory. Brought to the attention of the general public by a self-produced debut album that managed to carve out a small spot in the U.S. charts, The Way of the Fist (2006), the band led by singer Ivan Moody has enjoyed a smooth rise to fame, thanks to tireless touring, whether alongside Korn, Disturbed, Godsmack, or Chimaira. The subsequent albums War Is the Answer (2009) and American Capitalist (2011), driven by hard-hitting singles, made their way into the best-seller charts. In 2013, the track âComing Downâ won the Independent Music Award for âBest Metal Song.â Two volumes of The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell followed before the release of Got Your Six, which peaked at number 2 in 2015. A compilation, A Decade of Destruction (2017), preceded the seventh album by one of the most popular American heavy metal bands, And Justice for None (2018). In 2020, the band released its eighth album, titled F8, which is actually pronounced Fate . It was the first album released on their new label, Better Noise Music, and the first to feature new drummer Charlie Engen, who replaced founding member Jeremy Spencer. On this album, Ivan Moody showcases a completely revitalized voice after putting an end to his excesses. In 2020, guitarist Jason Hook left Five Finger Death Punch and was replaced by Andy James, who made his recording debut with the band on âBroken World.â In 2022, the band released its ninth album, AfterLife, driven by âAfterLife,â âTimes Like These,â and âWelcome to the Circus,â and set a record at the top of the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart. A deluxe edition was released in 2024 featuring âThis Is the Way,â a posthumous collaboration with DMX that also reached number one on U.S. rock radio. To celebrate their 20th anniversary, the band re-recorded part of their catalog for the two-volume set 20 Years of Five Finger Death Punch â Best Of in 2025, including a new version of âThe Endâ featuring Babymetal. Following the launch of an anniversary tour, Five Finger Death Punch released their tenth album, Legacy, on July 31, 2026, preceded by âEye of the Stormâ and âDe Oppresso Liber.â
