Biography

Born in New York's Brooklyn neighborhood on September 26, 1967, Timothy Brown is better known as Father MC or Father. An R&B rapper and singer, his greatest success came with his debut album Father's Day (October 1990), featuring four hits: "Treat Them Like They Want to Be Treated" (#1 on the rap charts), "I'll Do 4 U" (#20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and also #1 on the rap charts, #14 on the R&B charts), "Lisa Baby" (#25 on the dance charts) and "I've Been Watching You" (#39 R&B/hip-hop). The Uptown Records artist was joined by the same producers, Howie Tee, Mark Rooney and Prince Markie Dee, for the next album, Close to You (1992), which included the hit "Everything's Gonna Be Alright " (no. 37). After a duet with 4 Sure on "Innocent Girl" (#102 in 1993), Father released the album Sex Is Law (1993), produced by Teddy Riley. He returned to the Father MC name for the following albums: Sexual Playground (1995), This Is for the Players (1995), No Secrets (1999), My (2003) and Fam Body (2010), all of which failed to live up to their initial success.
