Biography

Taking the old skool hip hop of LL Cool J and Run DMC and adding sleazy synths, big bass lines and shout-for-the-sky, singalong choruses, Far East Movement are a party-starting, electro rap outfit that create flamboyant, strutting dance pop. Inspired to form after seeing Kanye West and Dilated Peoples play at the House of Blues club, high school friends Kev Nish (Kevin Nishimura), Prohgress (James Roh), J-Splif (Jae Choung), and DJ Virman (Virman Coquia) started putting on shows in their native Koreatown, Los Angeles before releasing mix-tape Audio-Bio in 2005. Their break came when their track Round Round from debut Folk Music (2006) was used in action movie The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift and Interscope Records signed them up for album Free Wired (2010). Featuring Snoop Dogg, Keri Hilson and Roger Sanchez, it produced the Number 1 single and worldwide smash Like A G6, making Far East Movement the first Asian-American group to top the US charts. They went on to score further hits with Rocketeer and Live My Life featuring Justin Bieber, before returning with fourth record Dirty Bass (2012).
