Biography

Fanfare Ciocărlia is a twelve-member Romani brass band from Zece Prăjini, Romania, formed in 1996. Their music stems from Romani and Romanian folklore, including the Sîrba and Hora dances. Producer Henry Ernst discovered them and arranged their first international performances in 1997. In 1998, they released their debut album, Radio Pașcani. Their second album, Baro Biao – World Wide Wedding (1999), was followed by tours in Japan and Australia. Their third album, Iag Bari – The Gypsy Horns from the Mountains Beyond (2001), was released before the band achieved further international success with Gili Garabdi – Ancient Secrets of Gypsy Brass (2005). Notable recordings include interpretations of the “James Bond Theme” (2005) and Duke Ellington's “Caravan” (2005). Discography releases include Queens and Kings (2007) and It Wasn't Hard to Love You (2021).
