Biography

Kálmán Balogh, born on January 18, 1959, in Miskolc, Hungary, is a percussionist specializing in the cimbalom. He graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest in 1980 and studied Gypsy music across Europe and Asia. Balogh performed with notable Hungarian bands and collaborated internationally with acts like Orient-Express and Transglobal Underground. He was the musical director of Andre Heller's Magneten Gypsy Show and performed with orchestras such as the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra and the Miami Philharmonic Orchestra in 1997. His notable albums include The Art of the Gipsy Cimbalom (1998) and Live in Germany (2007). Balogh's contributions have been recognized with awards such as the 1985 Honorary Young Master of Folk Art, the 1999 eMeRTon award, the 2005 Artisjus prize, and the 2007 Kodály prize.
