Biography

Extra Musica, a Congolese musical band, was formed in 1993 by seven founding members including Roga-Roga, Espé Bass, Kila Mbongo, Durell Loemba, Guy-Guy Fall, and Ramatoulaye Ngolali. The group’s name “Extra Musica” reflects the idea of being “extraordinary,” inspired by positive feedback from early performances. They first gained recognition with their debut album Les Nouveaux Missiles (1995), which included the popular track “Freddy Nelson.” In 1998, internal conflicts led to a major split, resulting in Quentin Moyascko and others forming Extra Musica International, while the remaining members continued with the group. Despite this, the group released État-Major in 1998. They went on to win the Kora Award for Best African Group in 2000 for Shalaï (1999), and later received another major Kora recognition in 2010 linked to La Main Noire (2006).
