Biography

The daughter of a Royal Shakespeare Company theatre director John Caird and Tony Award winning actress and former Eurovision contestant Frances Ruffelle, Eliza Caird spurned an acting career to become a classy, kooky, soulful pop starlet. Nicknamed Doolittle after the character in the musical My Fair Lady, she originally trained at her grandmother Sylvie Young's Theatre School before signing a deal with Parlophone and winning over Radio 1 DJs Jo Whiley, Nick Grimshaw and Fearne Cotton with early singles Skinny Genes, Rollerblades and Top 5 hit Pack Up. She featured on Shane MacGowan's charity record I Put Spell On You in aid of the Haiti earthquake victims, while debut album Eliza Doolittle (2010) reached Number 3 in the UK charts and won praise for summery melodies and catchy songwriting. Often compared to the likes of Lily Allen, Paloma Faith and Kate Nash, Doolittle featured on Disclosure's Top 10 single You & Me before returning with the breezy, upbeat hit Big When I Was Little and second album In Your Hands (2013).
