Biography
Marina Lambrini Diamandis was born on October 10, 1985 in Brynmawr (Wales) and grew up partly in Abergavenny. After moving to London, she began her career in 2005 on Myspace as Marina and the Diamonds, later performing simply as Marina. The genre can be categorized as indie-pop and electro-pop. Her debut album The Family Jewels was released in 2010 and reached number 5 in the British album charts; it was certified gold in the UK. Singles from the album include "Mowgli's Road", "Hollywood", "I Am Not a Robot", "Oh No!" and "Shampain". "Hollywood" reaches number 12 in the singles charts in the UK and Germany. The concept album Electra Heart follows in 2012 and tops the British charts. The single "Primadonna" becomes an international success and reaches number 11 in the UK, top 5 in Austria, Ireland, New Zealand and top 10 in Scotland and Slovakia, among others. The third studio album Froot is released in 2015. This is followed in 2019 by the double project Love + Fear (acoustic version 2020). 2021 she releases Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land. In 2025, she releases her sixth album Princess of Power with the singles "Butterfly" (February 2025) and "Cuntissimo" (April 2025). Marina wins the 2010 MTV Europe Music Award for "Best UK & Ireland Act" and the Virgin Media Music Award for "Best Newcomer". 2012 she wins the Attitude Magazine Award "Best Music Award". 2021 she receives an Ivor Novello Award for "Man's World" as "Best Song Musically and Lyrically".
