Puerto Rican singer Manuel Gómez Ramos, better known as El Propio, began his musical journey in the wake of Hurricane Hugo, ultimately establishing himself as an inventive voice in salsa music. Starting out in rap, he found his true calling in salsa, leading him to develop a unique style he calls âSalsa Piquete.â Guided by White Lion Records, a label known for elevating reggaeton icons like Tego Calderón and Calle 13, El Propio has graced international stages, including the Festival de las Flores in Colombia and the iconic Coliseo de Puerto Rico. Heâs collaborated with artists like Cosculluela, Arcángel, and Jowell y Randy, and cites salsa legends such as Rubén Blades as major influences. Under the new Salsa White Lion initiative led by ElÃas De León, El Propio has launched his first single "Uju Ajá" in 2024, which blends classic salsa with modern elements, aiming to recreate the vibrant New York salsa scene of the 1970s for todayâs audiences. This release, in partnership with ONErepm, reflects Salsa White Lionâs commitment to breathing new life into the genre and attracting a new generation of salsa enthusiasts. That year, he followed up with "HÃbrida," another infectious salsa track that peaked at number 24 on Billboard's Tropical Airplay chart.
