Biography

Edgar Joel, born on August 30, 1961, in Philadelphia to a Puerto Rican family, is a celebrated salsa musician, trombonist, and bandleader known for his romantic style. His passion for music began in high school, where he formed groups for local events before establishing Edgar Joel y Su Orquesta. With Anthony Colón as lead vocalist, the band gained recognition with their debut hit, a cover of "Hasta El Sol De Hoy," which reached Number 11 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart and earned two Premios Lo Nuestro nominations in 1994. The following year, "En las Nubes" became their first Number 1 hit on the Billboard Tropical Airplay chart, cementing their place in salsa romántica. Over the years, Edgar Joel continued to release hits like "Hechizo de Luna," "Si Tuviera Tus Ojos," and "Las Alas de Mi Corazón." In 2011, he recorded Para la Historia, featuring "Bajo la Sombra," followed by collaborations with Frankie Ruiz Jr. on "Tú Adiós Me Duele" (2017) and Yan Collazo on "Laberinto Zodiacal" (2020). Celebrating three decades in music, he released a greatest hits album in 2021, reaffirming his legacy in salsa.
