Biography

Oscar Dudamel, born on January 14, 1961, in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, is a seasoned trombonist and salsa musician whose musical journey began at a young age under the mentorship of maestro Pablo Canela and through his involvement in El Sistema. Originally trained in cuatro, guitar, and percussion, Oscar Dudamel expanded his craft at the Conservatorio Vicente Emilio Sojo and performed with the Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil de Lara, blending classical expertise with a growing love for salsa, inspired by Willie Colón’s "La Murga." Throughout his career, Oscar Dudamel shared stages with salsa legends like Héctor Lavoe, Celia Cruz, Ismael Rivera, and Rubén Blades, and led his own orchestra in Caracas, opening for major acts such as Oscar D’ León and Luis Enrique. After relocating to Madrid, he founded Oscar Dudamel y su Orquesta, regularly performing at Café Berlín and sustaining his deep connection to Caribbean rhythms. In 2023, he realized a lifelong dream by releasing his solo album Sueño Alcanzado, a heartfelt tribute to his son, renowned classical conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and a celebration of his enduring passion for salsa music.
