Fitzroy Edwards, known professionally as Edi Fitzroy, was a Jamaican reggae singer born on November 17, 1955, in Chapelton, Clarendon Parish. He began his musical career while working as an accounts clerk at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation, releasing "Miss Molly Colly" in 1978, which became a top ten hit in Jamaica. His debut album Youthman Penitentiary (1982) followed, along with subsequent releases like Check For You Once (1982), which topped the Jamaican albums chart for four weeks, and Eclipse (1988). Fitzroy was recognized for his socially conscious lyrics, earning a Rockers Award in 1984 for Most Conscious Performer for "Princess Black". He performed at Reggae Sunsplash multiple times throughout the 1980s and early 1990s and contributed to the "Land of Africa" charity single. He released albums such as Deep in Mi Culture (1993) and Pollution (1994). After the release of Deep in Mi Culture in the mid-1990s, he started his own label, Confidence. Fitzroy continued performing until his death on March 4, 2017.
