Biography
Edgar Cruz, born Edgar Michael Cruz in Oklahoma City, is a guitarist known for his versatility across classical, pop, rock, flamenco, and jazz genres. He began playing guitar in 1976 under the tutelage of his father, Manuel Cruz II, a mariachi musician. Cruz studied classical guitar at Oklahoma City University. Cruz's career took off with early cassette recordings in the 1980s, leading to his first compact disc release, Throw Another Tape on the Fire, in 1989. He gained significant recognition for his fingerstyle arrangement of "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. He was featured in the 2004 documentary Spanish Blood: The Guitar of Edgar Cruz, produced by OETA. Cruz has released numerous albums, including Reminiscence (1997), Spanish Blood (2005), and Solo Guitar (2011).
