Ebony Tears was a Swedish death metal band formed in Stockholm in 1996 by vocalist Johnny Wranning and guitarist Conny Jonsson, who had previously played together in the band Memorium. After releasing a self-titled demo, the group signed with Black Sun Records and issued its debut album, Tortura Insomniae, in 1998. They followed with A Handful of Nothing (1999) and Evil as Hell (2001), featuring contributions from members of Dog Faced Gods. Throughout its career, Ebony Tears evolved from the melodic New Wave of Swedish Death Metal toward a faster, heavier sound incorporating thrash metal influences, while also using melodic passages and occasional folk-inspired elements. Following the release of Evil as Hell, the band dissolved as its members fully shifted their focus to Dog Faced Gods.
