Biography

The history of Therion is intertwined with that of Christofer Johnsson (singer and guitarist, born in 1972), its founder and only permanent member. Starting out as Blitzkrieg and then Megatherion, the Swedish metal band's adventure continued under the name Therion. From the first death metal albums, Of Darkness... (1991) to Lepaca Kliffoth (1995), were followed by an evolution towards Scandinavian symphonic metal, with a taste for the Gothic style. A forerunner in the genre, Therion's acclaimed recordings include Theli (1997), Secret of the Runes (2001) and the Lemuria/Sirius B diptych (2004). Three years later, the band released a new classic, Gothic Kabbalah, followed in 2010 by Sitra Ahra and in 2012 by Les Fleurs du Mal, a self-produced album of covers of French songs. Health problems and changes of musicians lead to the late delivery of the symphonic rock opera Beloved Antichrist in 2018.
