Biography
Earl Wrightson, born on January 1, 1916, in Baltimore, Maryland, was an American singer and actor best known for musical theatre, concerts, and television performances. He studied voice at a local conservatory and moved to New York City in the 1930s for further training. His career began with radio appearances on series like The Prudential Family Hour. In 1944, he played Robert in The New Moon, followed by the starring role in The Firebrand of Florence in 1945. Wrightson performed on television variety shows and hosted his own show, Earl Wrightson at Home. He won an Emmy Award for hosting The American Musical Theater for three years in the 1950s. His discography includes A Night with Jerome Kern, released in 1959. His last major singing role was as Captain von Trapp in a 1980 tour of The Sound of Music. He passed away on March 7, 1993.
