Biography

Dżem is a Polish blues rock band formed in Tychy in 1973. The group became closely associated with vocalist Ryszard Riedel, alongside members including Adam Otręba (guitar) and Benedykt “Beno” Otręba (bass). Their name is derived from the English word “jam,” adapted into Polish spelling as "Dżem". The band achieved early success with albums such as Cegła (1985), featuring signature songs like "Czerwony jak cegła" and "Whisky". Following Riedel’s death in 1994, Dżem continued with lineup changes and remained active into the 21st century, releasing albums including Muza (2010) and Symfonicznie (2012). Despite personnel changes and the loss of key members such as pianist Paweł Berger in 2005, Dżem has remained one of the most influential bands in Polish rock history.
