Biography

Katina and Volkova first met as members of childrens' music company Neposedi before auditioning for t.A.T.u, in 1998. The band was the brainchild of TV ad producer Ivan Shapovalov and was signed up to Universal Music Russia in May 2001. Taken from their debut album 200Km/h In The Wrong Lane, their first single I've Lost My Mind was released in English as All The Things She Said in 2002. The lesbian-themed tune became the first single by a Russian band to reach Number 1 in the UK charts and grossed sales of more than 2 million copies worldwide. The pair went on to represent Russia in 2003's Eurovision Song Contest, placing third, and after a brief hiatus in 2004, t.A.T.u returned in 2005 with a second album Dangerous And Moving then enjoyed limited success with a compilation of remixes. Their final album Vesyolye Ulybk was released in October 2008, with the English version Waste Management out in December 2009, after which Katina and Volkova went their separate ways to work on solo projects.
