Biography

Duo Sonnenschirm is a German musical group, known for its blend of cabaret and folk music. Formed in 1986 by Dieter Beckert and Jürgen B. Wolff, the duo originated from the East German folk movement of the 1970s. Their first professional collaboration occurred in 1982 with the folk opera Die Boten des Todes. The group’s first album, Beschattung durch Duo Sonnenschirm, was released in 1989 through the Amiga label. This recording earned the group the Wilhelmshavener Knurrhahn cabaret prize. In March 1993, they were awarded the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik for the album Live aus dem O-Zonenloch. After a dissolution in 1997, the duo resumed activity in 2005, releasing the album Billiges Vergnügen, which addressed global topics such as the Iraq War and received another Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik. The group subsequently released the studio albums Podeststücke in 2006 and Duolektik in 2010.
