Biography

Mariano Javier Castro, known professionally as Dread Mar-I, was born on January 31, 1978, in Quequén, Argentina. He began his musical journey after moving to Maipú and later to Buenos Aires, where he started his career as a singer. In 2004, he recorded "Mi amor" with DreadGon and contributed to the album Luz by Mensajeros Reggae. Dread Mar-I's solo career began in 2005 with the release of his debut album Jah guía, which included the song "Inspiración", used as the theme for ESPN's program Gravedad Zero. He collaborated with Los Cafres and participated in notable festivals like Bob Marley Day. His subsequent albums, including Hermanos (2006), Amor-Es (2008), and Viví en Do (2010), solidified his presence in the reggae scene. In 2014, he released En el Sendero, which was certified gold. His album 10 Años (2016) celebrated a decade of his career with a live performance at Luna Park. Dread Mar-I achieved significant milestones, including setting records for the most-streamed Argentine songs on YouTube with "Tú sin mí", "Hoja en blanco", and "Así fue". He also performed for nearly 100,000 people in Parque Camet, Mar del Plata, in January 2018, followed by the release of Caminarás Caminos later that year. After a few years without new material, Dread Mar I returned in 2025 with the 11-track album A Tempo.
