Biography
Mýa, whose full name is Mýa Marie Harrison, is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, producer and actress born on October 10, 1979 in Washington, D.C. She began her musical career in the late 1990s, and made a name for herself in 1998 with her self-titled debut album Mýa, featuring the R&B chart-topping singles "It's All About Me " (a duet with Sisqó), "Movin' On " and "My First Night with You ". In 2000, she released the album Fear of Flying, which included the international hit "Case of the Ex (Whatcha Gonna Do)" , followed by "Free " and "Best of Me " (parts 1 and 2, the latter with Jay-Z). Mýa gained worldwide recognition in 2001 when she collaborated with Christina Aguilera, Pink and Lil' Kim on the Grammy Award-winning cover of "Lady Marmalade " for the Moulin Rouge soundtrack . Her third album Moodring (2003), more personal and experimental, includes the singles "My Love Is Like...Wo " and "Fallen" . She continued her career as an independent artist with her own Planet 9 label, with projects such as Liberation (2007), Sugar & Spice (2008), the Beauty & the Streets mixtape (2009), the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Sexy & Simple) album (2011), followed by a series of EPs such as With Love (2014), Sweet XVI (2014) and Love Elevation Suite (2015), which heralded the Grammy-nominated Smoove Jones album (2016). In 2018, she released TKO (The Knock Out), confirming her style blending R&B, soul and sensuality. She is also active in film and TV, and in between performances, returns to song with a series of stand-alone singles such as "Handsfree" in 2019 with Ding Dong), "Space and Time" (2020), "Worth It" (2021), "Whine" with Bounty Killer (2023), "Anytime" (2024) and "Face to Face" (2025).
