Biography

Dimi Mint Abba, born Loula Bint Siddaty Ould Abba on December 25, 1958, in Tidjikja, Mauritania, was a prominent Mauritanian singer. She received early musical training from her mother and won a singing competition following her first radio appearance with her parents in 1976. The following year, she represented Mauritania at the International Oum Kalsoum Song Contest in Tunisia, winning with "Sawt Elfan". This victory launched her international career. She performed at major festivals across Africa and Europe, including tours in the United Kingdom (1989), the USA (1993-1994), and Australia (2009). Her albums include Moorish Music from Mauritania (1990) and Musique et chants de Mauritanie (1992). Dimi Mint Abba passed away on June 4, 2011, in Rabat, Morocco.
