Irish songwriter, musician and performer Dermot Joseph Kennedy was born in Rathcoole, County Dublin, on December 13, 1991. He learned to play the guitar at the age of ten, before composing his first songs and performing on local stages as a teenager. Following his first hits from the independent album Dermot Kennedy (January 2019), charted at #5 in Ireland, he began touring the U.S. and saw his track "Power Over Me" reach #10 in his home country (#21 in the U.S. rock charts). Signed to Interscope Records, he went on to record his second album Without Fear (October 2019), heralded by the singles "Lost" (#26) and especially "Outnumbered " (#3 in Ireland, #69 in the UK), which broadened his audience. It offered Dermot Kennedy his first No. 1 in Ireland and England, while the album reached No. 18 on the US Billboard 200 . With Sonder (2022), driven by the tracks "Better Days" (#4), "Something to Someone" (#2) and "Kiss Me" (#4), Dermot Kennedy achieved a similarly high score locally, with a first-place finish on the Irish and UK charts, and reached #74 on the Billboard 200. Following the reissue of Sonder in 2023 came the duet with Bailey Zimmerman and YoungBoy Never Broke Again, "Won't Back Down", included on the Fast X movie soundtrack. New songs were the subject of the EP I've Told the Trees Everything (2024), followed by the off-album single "Let Me In" (2025) and the album The Weight of the Woods (2026), also ranked #1 in Ireland and the UK (#100 on the Billboard 200).
