Biography

Matt Maeson's blend of alt-rock and indie-folk earned the songwriter his first Number 1 hit in 2019, when the debut single "Cringe" topped the Alternative Airplay chart in America and went platinum. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, on January 17, 1993, Maeson was raised in nearby Virginia Beach by missionary parents who forbade the broadcast of secular music in the family household. Nonetheless, he began playing guitar at 15 years old and was soon writing his own songs, with "Cringe" introducing his modern sound in 2016. Initially, the song did not find success, nor did the EPs Who Killed Matt Maeson (2017) and The Hearse (2018). Things changed in 2019, when "Cringe" spent four weeks at Number 1 on Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart. A follow-up single, "Hallucinogenics," reached Number 1 on the same chart one year later, with both songs appearing on Matt Maeson's full-length debut, Bank on the Funeral. In 2021, Maeson appeared on Illenium's single "Heavenly Side" and began releasing new material of his own, earning another hit on the Alternative Airplay chart with "Blood Runs Red," which reached number 22. One year later, "Cut Deep" reached number 23 on the same chart. Also reaching the Billboard charts was his second album, Never Had to Leave, which arrived in 2022 and hit number 25 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart.
