Biography

Denis Gäbel, born on November 11, 1979 in Germany, is a saxophonist, composer and bandleader. He began playing saxophone at age 13 and won the First Prize as Landessieger NRW at Jugend jazzt in 1993. Gäbel studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam from 1995 to 2002. His career featured collaborations with notable artists such as Antonio Faraò, Billy Cobham, and Felix Heydemann. Notable albums include Keep On Rollin’ (2006), Love Call (Impressions of Ellington) (2009) and The Mingus Sessions (2022). Gäbel notably won first place at the Pim Jacobs International Jazz Soloists Competition in Rotterdam in 2003, and was a finalist for the New German Jazz Price with his quartet in 2016. He has also performed at international festivals including the North Sea Jazz Festival and the Elbjazz.
