Biography

David Hobson, born November 18, 1960, in Ballarat, Australia, is an opera tenor and composer. He sang with local choirs as a child and performed with rock bands during his studies at the University of Melbourne. In 1987, David Hobson debuted as Rodolfo in La bohème for the Victorian State Opera's Young Artists Programme. He joined The Australian Opera (now Opera Australia) in 1988, creating the role of Lawrence in Brian Howard's opera Whitsunday. Notable roles include Frederic in The Pirates of Penzance, and various Gilbert and Sullivan characters. David Hobson's repertoire spans from baroque to contemporary works. He has composed several works, including the chamber opera Remembering Rosie (2001) and the orchestral score for the film One Perfect Day (2004).
