Biography

Darja Švajger, born on June 16, 1965, in Maribor, SR Slovenia, SFR Yugoslavia, is a Slovenian singer. She studied classical solo singing and jazz at the College of Music in Graz, Austria, graduating magna cum laude in 1997. Švajger's breakthrough came with her first album V objemu noči ("In the Arms of the Night") in 1994, following her win at the Melodies of the Sea and the Sun pop music festival in Koper. In 1995, she represented Slovenia in the Eurovision Song Contest with "Prisluhni mi" ("Listen to Me"), achieving seventh place. Švajger won the Pop Singer of the Year awards in both 1995 and 1996 in Slovenia. Her album Še tisoč let (For A Thousand Years) was released in 1999 and included the song "For a Thousand Years", which she performed at the Eurovision Song Contest that year, finishing eleventh.
