Biography

Darius de Haas (born September 29, 1968, in Chicago) is an American stage actor and singer. Raised in a musical family, de Haas began his career on Broadway, appearing in productions such as Rent, Kiss of the Spider Woman, and Carousel. He won an Obie Award in 1999 for his performance in Diedre Murray's jazz opera Running Man and played Jesus in the Alliance Theatre’s reimagining of Webber-Rice’s Jesus Christ Superstar, retitled JCS Gospel. De Haas has also become known as a concert and recording artist, performing with symphonies including the Cincinnati Pops and Boston Pops. His notable recordings include Day Dream: Variations on Strayhorn (2002) and So in Love: Songs of Cole Porter (2004). Additionally, he provided the singing voice for the character of Shy Baldwin in Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
