Biography

David Rothon, also known as D. Rothon, is a British composer, multi-instrumentalist, and pedal steel guitarist based in London. His work blends ambient music, contemporary classical composition, folk influences, and cinematic sound design. He is best known for a series of evocative instrumental albums released on the British independent label Clay Pipe Music, where he has developed a distinctive sound characterized by spacious pedal steel textures, field recordings, subtle electronics, and a strong sense of place. Alongside his solo work, David Rothon is active as a studio musician, composer, and collaborator on experimental, folk, and contemporary music projects. His own recordings include the albums *Nightscapes* (2018), Memories of Earth (2021), and Estuary English with Oliver Cherer (2022), followed by the EPs Lonesome Echoes (2023) and Angel Pavements (2026), which reached No. 15 on the UK singles chart.
