Crooklyn Dodgers are a legendary rap supergroup that emerged in Brooklyn, New York in the mid-1990s and comprised a raft of rap royalty, including Buckshot, Chubb Rock, Mos Def, Special Ed, and more. Known for their street-smart lyrics and strong ties to Brooklyn's rich hip-hop culture, they embodied the essence of 1990s East Coast rap, and made a lasting impact in spite of their limited discography. The group's first single, "Crooklyn" came out in 1994 and was produced by Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest. The track was created especially for the Spike Lee film of the same name. In 1995, a second version of the group formed for the soundtrack of another Spike Lee film, Clockers. This lineup, known as Crooklyn Dodgers '95, featured Chubb Rock, Jeru the Damaja, and O.C., with production by the legendary DJ Premier. Their track "Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers" maintained the group's penchant for hard-hitting lyrics and production, paying homage to Brooklyn's resilience and the golden era of hip-hop.
