Real name Anthony Peaks, Apache was an American rapper born on December 26, 1964 in Jersey City, New Jersey, and died on January 22, 2010. He got his start as part of the Flavor Unit collective, alongside artists such as Queen Latifah, Naughty by Nature and Lakim Shabazz. His career took off in the early 1990s, thanks to his hardcore style and direct flow, typical of East Coast rap at the time. In 1993, he released his only solo album, Apache Ain't Shit, on Tommy Boy Records. The album peaked at #69 on the Billboard 200 and #15 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. He is best known for the single "Gangsta Bitch", produced by Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest), which became an underground hit and reached number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track's minimalist beat and provocative chorus earned it lasting recognition in hip-hop culture. Although he didn't pursue an extensive recording career after this album, Apache remains a respected figure in East Coast hip-hop for his authenticity, distinctive deep voice, and collaborations with influential members of the New Jersey rap scene. He died in 2010 at the age of 45, following complications related to health problems, notably heart disease.
