Biography

Ill Al Skratch are an iconic East Coast hip-hop duo that burst onto the scene in the early 1990s, known for their smooth lyrical flows and infectious beats. Comprised of Big Ill and Al Skratch, the duo hailed from Brooklyn, New York, and Mount Vernon, New York, respectively. Their dynamic chemistry and distinct blend of gritty street narratives with catchy, radio-friendly hooks set them apart in the golden era of hip-hop. Ill Al Skratch made their mark with the release of their debut album, Creep Wit' Me (1994), for Mercury Records. The LP was a critical and commercial success, propelled by the hit singles "Where My Homiez? (Come Around My Way)" and "I'll Take Her," the latter featuring renowned R&B singer Brian McKnight. "Where My Homiez?" became an anthem with its infectious chorus and relatable lyrics about loyalty and camaraderie, while "I'll Take Her" showcased their versatility by blending hip-hop with smooth R&B vibes. The duo's ability to craft relatable street tales with a polished, accessible sound helped them carve out a unique niche in the hip-hop landscape. Their music resonated with a wide audience, earning them significant radio play and a solid fanbase. Creep Wit' Me remains a classic, remembered for its seamless production and the duo's charismatic delivery. They continued to make waves with appearances on various soundtracks and collaborations with other artists. Their track "Don't Shut Down on a Player" featured on the 1995 New Jersey Drive, Vol. 1 soundtrack, further cementing their presence in the hip-hop community. They also unleashed a favourable sophomore effort in 1997, Keep It Movin', which went to number 55 on the Top R&B & Hip-Hop Albums Chart. They disbanded later that year but re-united in 2012 and began releasing new music as B.U.C. (Brooklyn/Uptown Connection).
