Biography
Oswald Williams, known as Count Ossie, was a Jamaican Rastafari drummer and band leader born in 1926. In the early 1950s, he established his camp in the Wareika Hill area east of Kingston, which became a community for musicians. He created the group Mystic Revelation of Rastafari in 1947, pioneering the Rasta "nyabinghi" drumming style. Around 1959, his breakthrough came with performances at Margarita Mahfood's Ward Theater show. He later recorded for producers Harry Mudie and Coxsone Dodd, releasing singles like "African Shuffle". He led The Mystic Revelation of Rastafari and recorded the albums Grounation (1973), Tales Of Mozambique (1975), and Man From Higher Heights (1983). He died in a road accident in 1976.
