Jaya the Cat is a Dutch and American reggae, ska, and punk rock band formed in 1998. The original lineup featured Geoff Lagadec, Dave Smith, Hugh Brockmyre, and Ben Murphy in Boston. Their first independent recording, âO'Farrellâ (1999), secured them a contract with Gold Circle Records. They released their debut studio album, Basement Style (2001), which gained significant popularity in Europe. Drummer David Germain joined them in 2001, and they began touring on the Vans Warped Tour. After releasing First Beer of a New Day (2003), Smith and Murphy left the group, and the remaining members relocated to Amsterdam. They issued a live album titled Ernesto's Burning (2004) and followed with the studio album More Late Night Transmissions With... (2007). In 2012, they released The New International Sound of Hedonism (2012) through Bomber Music. They followed this with A Good Day for the Damned (2017). Niklas Gralla joined them on guitar in 2025.
