Biography

Client is an English electronic music group formed in London in 2002, originally comprising Kate Holmes and Sarah Blackwood, both of whom performed anonymously until their identities were later disclosed. Holmes, formerly of Frazier Chorus and Technique, and Blackwood, lead singer of Dubstar, brought a blend of synth‑pop and new‑wave influences to the project. The group’s debut single, "Don't Call Me Baby" (2005), introduced their signature aesthetic of airline hostess uniforms and fetish‑inspired fashion. Following the release of the album City (2004) and the EP Pornography (2005), Client signed with Toast Hawaii, the label of Depeche Mode’s Andy Fletcher, and expanded their discography with the album Client (2005), Zerox Machine (2007), Heartland (2007), and Metropolis (2007). The group collaborated with notable artists such as Carl Barât on "Pornography", Pete Doherty on "Down to the Underground", and Martin L. Gore on "Overdrive", and toured with Depeche Mode and Erasure. In 2006, Client departed Toast Hawaii and signed with Out of Line, SubSpace Communications, Metropolis Records, Noiselab, and Loser Friendly Records. The lineup changed with Emily Mann joining in 2005 and leaving in 2007, Charlotte Hatherley joining in 2007, and Nicole Thomas debuting in 2013. The band released the album Authority (2014) before disbanding, leaving a legacy of chart‑respectable releases and a distinct visual and sonic identity within the electronic music scene.
