ADULT. is an American electroclash, electropunk, and synth-pop band from Detroit, Michigan, formed in 1998 by married couple Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller. They started releasing music under the pseudonym Plasma Co. before adopting the ADULT. name. Known for their dark, noisy, punk-infused electro sound with cold synths, driving beats, detached vocals, and a raw, minimal edge, they were key players in the electroclash scene around 2000â2005, blending EBM influences, new wave, and early techno/punk attitudesâoften darker and more abrasive than the glitzier or pop-leaning acts. They gained popularity in Detroit and built a cult following in Germany and the United Kingdom. The band toured with Trans Am in 2002, and in May 2003 they embarked on their first headlining U.S. tour. Briefly expanding to a trio with guitarist Samuel Consiglio aka Stallone the Reducer (2005â2006), they returned to the core duo format. Beyond music, they create horror-inspired short films, videos, and installations with Cronenbergian vibes and DIY ethos. They have remixed tracks for artists including Felix da Housecat, Fischerspooner, Ladytron, A Number of Names, The Faint, Erase Errata, and Bis. They founded the Ersatz Audio label and have numerous albums and EPs, starting with Anxiety Always (2003) and including key works like The Way Things Fall (2013), Detroit House Guests (2017, a collaborative album with guests like Douglas J. McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb), This Behavior (2018), Perception Is/as/of Deception (2020), and Becoming Undone (2022). In 2026, they returned with their ninth studio full-length, Kissing Luck Goodbye.
