Biography

Christian Muthspiel, born on September 20, 1962 in Judenburg, Austria, is an Austrian jazz musician, trombonist, pianist, composer and conductor. He began piano lessons at six and added trombone at eleven, later studying at the Graz University of Music, though he did not complete the program. His early career included founding the Graz Orchestra Forum and performing with Fidelio & Blasius, leading to appearances at European and American jazz festivals. He released Octet Ost II. Indirect View of Beauty in 1994, followed by Ernst Jandl: Für Und Mit Ernst in 2008 and Homecoming Live in 2025. Muthspiel has collaborated with artists such as Franck Tortiller and Georg Breinschmid, and his work earned him the 2025 Austrian Jazz Prize for Best Live Act.
