Caralisa Monteiro (born in Mumbai, India) is an Indian singer. Educated in music from a very young age, she began to write her own songs during her college years; giving away her hobby to focus on supporting her family. Working in the advertising industry, composing and performing television jingles, Monteiro quickly gained a reputation as the âJingle Queenâ, before given the opportunity to work with well-known trio ShankarâEhsaanâLoy on the soundtrack to cult film Dil Chahta Hai in 2001. Performing both as a singer and an arranger in both the Hindi and Bollywood film industries, Monteiro recorded songs such as âMitwahâ from Hindi film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna andâTumse hi Tumseâ from Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehnâ as well as appearing on Tamil soundtracks, Sillunu Oru Kaadhal and Yaaro Iran Yaaro. In 2015, she launched her solo career, releasing her multi-genre debut EP Illusions and recording the ballad âAll Aloneâ from Indie film Rize of the Zombie. In 2017, she collaborated with acclaimed Welsh composer Karl Jenkins performing âHymnâ on his Adiemus: Songs of a Sanctuary tour, returning in 2021 with singles âWritings on the Wallâ and âYeh toh Hona Hi Thaâ. In 2022, she recorded the Spanish language lyrics in âBesharam Rangâ from the hit film Pathaan, attracting over 50 million views.
