Bollywood playback singer Udit Narayan was born Udit Narayan Jha on December 1, 1955 in Baisi, Bihar, India. He began performing as a folk artist in the 1970s, and began his successful run in Bollywood with the 1980 Hindi language movie Unees-Bees. He continued to work steadily, all of which led to the soundtrack for the 1988 film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, a project that garnered him his first Filmfare Award. He became a mainstay in for the next two decades winning numerous musical awards for his work in such projects as 1996âs Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, 1997âs Raja Hindustani, 2000âs Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, 2001âs Lagaan, 2002âs Zindagi Khoobsoorat Hai, and 2004âs Swades. He won a 2005 National Film Award for his music production work on Kab Hoi Gawna Hamar. During this time he was given national honors and by the early 2010s he was capturing Lifietime Achievement awards from various institutions. He was still scoring chart success forty years after his movie debut with the 2021 single âKisi Din Banoongi Main Rajaâ.
