Biography

Award-winning Indian pop and playback singer Alisha Chinai aka the "Queen of Indipop" was born on 18 March 1965 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and carved a name for herself in the Hindi music industry, beginning with her 1985 album Jadoo and scoring an Indipop breakthrough LP ten years later with the Biddu-produced Made in India, which won Best Indian Pop Album and Best Music Video at the 1996 Screen Awards. The 1990s were a fruitful decade for Alisa Chinai who forged several successful singer-producer working relationships (including Anu Malik, who she later accused of sexual harassment) and a slew of hit singles for Bollywood, from "Dhak Dhak Dhak" with Aditya Pancholi for 1990 Indian Hindi-language action film Maha-Sangram and "Jalta Hai Badan" for 1992's Indian Hindi-language action film Balwaan to "Ruk Ruk Ruk" for the 1994 Indian Hindi-language action film Vijaypath. In 2005, she took home a Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for "Kajra Re" from the 2005 Indian Hindi-language crime comedy film Bunty Aur Babli. The 2010s welcomed the release of a string of Hindi film songs, including "Zinadgi Meri Dance Dance" for 2017 Indian political crime drama Daddy. A remix of "Kajra Re" with Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Shankar Mahadevan, Javed Ali and Gulzar saw the light of day in 2023.
