Burning Witch was an American doom/sludge metal band from Seattle, Washington. Formed in early 1995 by Stephen O'Malley, Greg Anderson, and Jamie Sykes following the breakup of Thorr's Hammer, the group initially included G. Stuart Dahlquist and vocalist Edgy 59. Their music was characterized by its slow and heavy sound with minimalist riffs and Edgy 59âs distinctive vocals. The band's first recordings were produced by Steve Albini in 1996, resulting in the Towers..., released in 1998 on Slap A Ham Records. After Sykes' departure and B.R.A.D.'s addition, the band recorded Rift.Canyon.Dreams, which was released by Merciless Records in the same year. Following these recordings, Burning Witch disbanded in late 1998. Their compilation album, Crippled Lucifer (Seven Psalms For Our Lord Of Light), was released on Southern Lord Records in 1998. Post-breakup, members went on to form notable bands such as Sunn O))) and Goatsnake.
