Biography
Brother Beyond, a British pop band formed in 1985, comprised Nathan Marcellus Moore on vocals, David Benjamin White on guitar, Carl Anthony Fysh on keyboards, Steven Alexander on drums, and Francis Anthony White on bass. The group released their first four singles between 1986 and 1988-"I Should Have Lied", "How Many Times", "Chain-Gang Smile" (produced by Don Was), and an early version of "Can You Keep a Secret?"-all written in collaboration with Carl Fysh. These tracks were minor chart successes, following which the band won an auction for production services from Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW). Their first major hit, "The Harder I Try", reached number two on the UK Singles Chart. Subsequent releases included "He Ain't No Competition" and their debut album Get Even. After a hiatus, they returned with "Drive On" and "When Will I See You Again?" from their second album, Trust. EMI America released Trust in the USA with additional tracks, including "The Girl I Used to Know", which peaked at number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band called it a day in 1991, with Nathan Marcellus Moore joining Worlds Apart and other members pursuing various musical endeavours. Notably, Eg White went on to win an Ivor Novello award for his solo work.
