Biography
Delispice, a South Korean rock band, formed in the 1990s in Seoul's Hongdae Club area. The group's members met through an online chatroom on Hitel. Kim Min-kyu, the bandâs guitarist and lead vocalist, aimed to create a group influenced by Anglophone rock bands like U2 and REM. Delispice released their debut album Deli Spice in August 1997, with "Mask" as the title song. The track "Chau Chau", featured in the 2002 film Who Are U?, became one of their most recognizable songs. Their second album followed in March 1999 and included a cover of a Sanulrim song. The band's third album, released in January 2000, featured darker lyrical themes with four songs banned from rotation by a Korean broadcasting agency. DRRRR! was released in September 2001, and Espresso followed in February 2003, featuring the single "Confession", which appeared on the television drama Reply 1997. Delispice continued with album releases including bombom (2006) and Open Your Eyes (2011). Kim Min-kyu also pursued a solo career under the name Sweet Pea, releasing four albums before retiring the stage name in 2017. Delispice's debut album was ranked 18th on The Hankyoreh and Melonâs list of 'Top 100 Albums of Korean Pop Music'.
