Onnine Ibalgwan (Korean: 언니네이발관), also known as Sister’s Barbershop, was a South Korean modern rock band that played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s indie music scene. Formed in 1996 in Seoul, the band quickly gained recognition with their debut album, Pigeon is a Rat in the Sky (1996), which received critical acclaim for its poetic lyrics and experimental rock sound. Led by vocalist and songwriter Lee Seok-won, the band’s music explored themes of nostalgia, existential contemplation, and emotional depth. Their second album, Reminiscences (1998), further solidified their reputation in the underground scene. Over the years, Onnine Ibalgwan continued to refine their sound, blending indie rock with introspective storytelling in albums like Pop Song of the Dream (2002), Believe in the Moment (2004), and Most Ordinary Existence (2008). Their final album, People Who Stay Alone (2017), was both a farewell and a reflection on solitude, resonating deeply with fans. Following the album’s release, the band disbanded, marking the end of an influential era in Korean indie rock.
